Choose nutrients for your tank, not just the bottle name

Compare your plant density, lighting, substrate, livestock and use of CO2 injection with the formula's intended application. Low-tech and demanding CO2-injected aquariums may need different nutrient routines. Products described as all-in-one or plant supplements do not necessarily contain the same nutrients: check whether nitrogen and phosphorus are included.

For example, LCA NP Free and AquaLabs Easy Grow Lite are intended for setups that do not need additional nitrate or phosphate. Seachem Flourish provides micro and trace nutrients, with separate macro-nutrient supplements available. Select a formula around your existing nutrient supply and relevant water-test results.

Keep plant-care functions separate

Root tabs deliver nutrition through the substrate, while liquid fertilisers are dosed into the water column. Organic carbon supplements are not the same as pressurised CO2 equipment or a complete nutrient fertiliser. Mineral and hardness products affect water chemistry and should be chosen for the needs of your aquarium and livestock.

Foliage mists such as APT Dew and LCA Foliage Mist are for their specified spray applications, not substitutes for aquarium water-column dosing. Algae treatments also require their own instructions and plant-compatibility checks.

Compare dosing, compatibility and pack contents

Follow the current product label for dosing, preparation and maintenance. Check suitability for shrimp, snails and sensitive plants rather than assuming every product in the collection is interchangeable or suitable for every setup. Avoid combining overlapping nutrient formulas without accounting for their contents.

Compare bottle sizes, tablet quantities and refill packaging before ordering. Selected LCA refill listings exclude the pump dispenser. Check individual listings for included accessories, availability and delivery costs.
