Name: Spotted Blue Eye Rainbowfish - Instore pick up only

Scientific Name: Pseudomugil gertrudae

Description: A small, peaceful and colourful freshwater rainbowfish featuring a slender, translucent silver-gold body, striking bright blue eyes and beautifully patterned fins covered in distinctive dark spots. Males display elaborate fin extensions and vibrant yellow highlights, particularly during courtship. An active, social species ideal for peaceful planted community aquariums.

Origin: Northern Australia, including Queensland and the Northern Territory, and southern New Guinea.

pH: Approximately 6.0–7.5

Temperature: Around 24–28°C

Adult Size: 3–4 cm

Lifespan: 2–3 years with proper care.

Food: Omnivorous. Feed high-quality micro pellets, finely crushed flakes, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, microworms and other appropriately sized live or frozen foods. Their small mouths require finely sized foods. A varied diet helps maintain healthy colouration and encourages natural breeding behaviour.

Compatibility: Very peaceful community fish. Best kept in groups of at least 6–8 individuals, preferably 10 or more, to encourage natural schooling and courtship displays. Suitable tank mates include small rasboras, peaceful tetras, pygmy Corydoras, small freshwater shrimp and other gentle nano fish. Avoid large, aggressive or fin-nipping species.

Habitat: A well-established, densely planted freshwater aquarium with gentle water movement, excellent water quality and plenty of swimming space. Provide fine-leaved plants, floating vegetation, driftwood and shaded areas to replicate their natural habitat. A dark substrate can help showcase their colouration. A secure lid is essential, as these fish are capable jumpers.
