Description:
A striking freshwater fish with a dark black body and vivid red-orange tail. Despite its name and shark-like appearance, it is actually a member of the carp family. Red Tail Sharks are active, territorial fish that become more assertive as they mature.

Origin:
Thailand, particularly the Chao Phraya River basin.

Food:
Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet of quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, vegetable matter and occasional frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia.

Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive and territorial, particularly towards its own species and other similarly shaped bottom-dwelling fish. Best keptone per aquarium with robust, active tank mates that occupy the middle and upper areas of the tank. Avoid keeping with other Red Tail Sharks or timid fish.

Habitat:
Prefers a spacious aquarium with good filtration and plenty of caves, rocks, driftwood and hiding places. Providing broken lines of sight helps establish territories and reduce aggression. Allow plenty of open swimming space and provide a sand or fine gravel substrate.
