Neptune Systems MXM Mobius Module

The Neptune Systems MXM Mobius Module is a significant expansion module for Neptune Systems Apex aquarium controllers, particularly for aquarists who use equipment from EcoTech Marine and AquaIllumination (AI). Its primary purpose is to bridge the communication gap between these popular third-party devices and the Apex ecosystem, bringing their control directly into the Apex Fusion interface.

Historically, Neptune Systems had separate modules (WXM for older EcoTech and AWM for AI) that became outdated as EcoTech and AI moved to their proprietary "Mobius" wireless control platform. The MXM was introduced to bring this integration back for current-generation Mobius-compatible devices.

Key Features and Functions:

1.  Unified Control of EcoTech Marine and AquaIllumination Devices:

Eliminates Multiple Apps: The biggest advantage is that it allows you to control your compatible EcoTech and AI pumps and lights directly through Apex Fusion, eliminating the need to switch between the Mobius or MyAI apps and Apex Fusion.

Centralized Automation: This integration enables sophisticated automation. You can incorporate your EcoTech and AI gear into your Apex's existing schedules, feed modes, water change modes, and protective routines.

Example: Feed Mode: With a single button press or scheduled time in Apex Fusion, you can:

Set Vortech powerheads to a light pulse setting.
Activate feed intensity for Vectra return pumps.
Turn off your skimmer.
Activate your Neptune Systems Automatic Feeding System (AFS).

        Example: Water Change/Service Mode:**

Turn off Vectra pumps.
Adjust Radion lights to a brighter, more white spectrum for better visibility.
Turn off Vortech wavemakers       

Example:

Photo Mode:

Decrease or stop flow with Vortech and Versa pumps to enhance polyp extension for clearer photos.
Activate radiant color mode on Radion lights to showcase coral colors.

Protective Actions: Configure devices to react to Apex sensor readings. For instance, if tank temperature rises, the Apex can command your Radion lights to dim, helping to reduce heat input. If ORP drops, you could trigger a specific Vortech mode like Nutrient Transport Mode.

2.  Wireless Connectivity:

The MXM wirelessly connects to Mobius-compatible EcoTech Marine and AquaIllumination devices. Each MXM module can wirelessly control up to 25 different Mobius-compatible devices. If you have more, you can add additional MXM modules.

3.  Compatibility with EcoTech Marine Products:
Radion LED Lighting: G5 and G6 series (XR15, XR30).
VorTech MQD Series: MP10, MP40, MP60.
Vectra Series 2: S2, M2, L2.
(Note: At launch, it did not include control for the EcoTech Versa dosing pump, though this might change with firmware updates.)*

4.  Compatibility with AquaIllumination (AI) Products:
Hydra Series: 32 HD, 64 HD (and potentially Edge series).
Prime 16HD: Reef, Freshwater, Sol, Fuge.
Nero Series: Nero 3, Nero 5, Nero 7.
Blade LED Strips: Grow, Glow, Freshwater, Refugium.
Orbit Series: Orbit 2, Orbit 4.
Axis Series: Axis 20, Axis 40, Axis 90.

5.  Seamless Apex Integration:
AquaBus Connection: The MXM connects to your Apex system via a standard AquaBus cable and is powered directly by the Apex, requiring no separate power supply. It has two AquaBus connections for flexible installation.
Easy Setup: The setup process generally involves setting up your MXM, EcoTech, and AI devices within the Mobius app, then "releasing control" to your Apex. Once done, the devices should automatically appear in Apex Fusion.  Firmware Upgrades: The MXM's firmware is fully upgradeable through the Apex system, allowing for future feature enhancements and compatibility with new devices.
Status Indicators: Features LED status and wireless status indicators for easy monitoring.

Compatibility with Apex Controllers:

The MXM module is compatible with all Apex A2 and A3 series controllers:
Apex A2 (Apex, Apex EL)
Apex A3 (Apex Pro, Apex, Apex Jr.)

Why use the MXM?

For aquarists invested in both the Neptune Systems Apex and Mobius-compatible EcoTech/AI equipment, the MXM is a significant convenience and power-adder. It streamlines control, simplifies automation, and allows for more integrated protective actions based on real-time aquarium conditions. While the Mobius app or MyAI app can still be used for initial setup or certain advanced features, the MXM makes Apex Fusion the central control hub for your entire integrated system.
