NPFS-25

Neptune Systems Flow Sensor - 1/4" (0.64cm) FS-25

1 item left

Usually used with aquarium accessories like RODI inputs, calcium reactor feed lines etc., this flow sensor can be placed in line with the flow on 1/4″ tubing, connected to the FMM, and communicate to your Apex the flow rate of water through that pipe. The flow sensor itself uses push-fit connectors to make connecting to your system as simple as possible.  The FS-25 will work with flow rates from 3-12 gph.  The sensor has a wire length of 3 meters.

The Neptune Systems Flow Sensor 1/4" (FS-25) is a flow sensor suitable for 4mm pipes. The FS-25 is typically used with aquarium accessories such as RODI inlets, calcium reactor feed lines, etc., and can be placed inline with the flow on 1/4″ pipes. When the FS-25 is connected to the FMM, it can communicate the flow rate of the water to your Apex. The FS-25 uses push-fit connectors to make connecting to your system as easy as possible. The FS-25 works with flow rates of 3-12 gph.

*Must be connected to the FMM module

Key aspects:

Purpose and Common Applications:

Low Flow Monitoring: The 1/4" flow sensor is engineered for applications where you need to monitor relatively small volumes of water flowing through narrow tubing. Its typical operating range is 3-12 gallons per hour (GPH), or approximately 11-45 liters per hour (LPH).

RODI (Reverse Osmosis Deionization) Systems: This is one of its most common uses. You can place the FS-25 in the feed line coming from your RODI unit to:                          Monitor water production rates.
Detect if the water flow stops (e.g., due to a clogged filter or a supply issue).
Calculate how much top-off water is being added to your tank over time.
Automate RODI production by linking it to your ATO reservoir level.

Calcium Reactor Feed Lines: Many calcium reactors use precise, low flow rates for optimal performance. The FS-25 can be placed on the effluent line to:
Verify and maintain the desired drip rate.
Alert you if the flow becomes erratic or stops, indicating a problem with the CO2, media, or pump.
Dosing Pump Monitoring: While Neptune Systems' own DOS pumps have their own internal monitoring, if you're using other low-flow dosing pumps for things like kalkwasser or two-part solutions, an FS-25 can provide an extra layer of verification for flow.
Small Reactor Lines: For small media reactors (e.g., for carbon or GFO) that require very low flow, the FS-25 can help ensure consistent operation.
Key Features:

1/4" Push-Fit Connectors: The FS-25 features convenient push-fit (also known as quick-connect or John Guest style) fittings, making it easy to install directly into standard 1/4" OD (outside diameter) RODI tubing without the need for clamps or glue.

Connects to FMM: It must be connected to one of the four sensor ports on a Neptune Systems FMM (Fluid Monitoring Module). The FMM then sends the flow data to your Apex controller.

Real-time Data and Datalogging: Once connected and configured, the Apex system will display the real-time flow rate in Apex Fusion. This data is also logged and graphed over time, allowing you to track trends and troubleshoot issues.

Automation and Alerts: You can program the Apex to:
Send email or SMS alerts if the flow drops below or exceeds a set threshold (e.g., "RODI water not flowing!").
Trigger other devices or routines based on flow. For example, if your calcium reactor effluent stops, you could have the Apex turn off the CO2 solenoid.

Compact Size: Its small footprint makes it easy to integrate into existing plumbing systems, especially in tight spaces.

Installation and Setup:

Placement: Identify the 1/4" tubing line where you want to measure flow. Ensure the flow direction matches the arrow on the sensor body.
Cut Tubing: Carefully cut the 1/4" tubing squarely at the desired installation point.
Insert Tubing: Push the ends of the tubing firmly into the push-fit connectors on the FS-25 until they are fully seated.
Connect to FMM: Plug the cable from the FS-25 into any available sensor port on your FMM.
Configure in Apex Fusion: Access your Apex Fusion dashboard. The Apex should auto-detect the flow sensor. You can then go into the FMM's configuration page to name the sensor, specify the unit (GPH or LPH), and set up any desired alerts or control rules.
The Neptune Systems 1/4" Flow Sensor (FS-25) is an excellent addition for aquarists who need precise monitoring and automation for low-flow applications, particularly in RODI production and dosing systems, providing valuable insights and peace of mind.
