Midnight Clownfish - Aquacultured - (No Online Purchases)

6 items left

The Midnight Clownfish is a sleek, jet-black variant of the popular Ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris). Unlike the Domino variant, the Midnight is prized for its total lack of stripes, offering a sophisticated, velvety colour that stands out brilliantly against a vibrant coral reef.

Appearance and Characteristics
The Midnight Clownfish is the result of selective breeding, focusing on an all-black aesthetic.

Colouration: These fish are born with some orange/brown hues, but as they mature, they develop a solid, deep black colour across their entire body.

Unique Features: Because they lack the traditional white bars, their movements through the water look incredibly fluid and stylised.

Size: They typically reach a maximum length of about 8–10 centimetres.

Aquarium Care & Environment
To keep your Midnight Clownfish in peak vigour, you need to provide a stable marine harbour.

Water Parameters
Maintaining high water quality is essential for their immune system.

Temperature: 24°C – 28°C

Salinity: 1.020 – 1.025 SG

pH: 8.1 – 8.4

Water Volume: A minimum of 75 litres is recommended for a pair.

Tank Setup
Aquascaping: Provide plenty of live rock with nooks and crannies. This allows them to organise their territory and feel secure.

Anemone Hosting:They do not require an anemone to survive, but they will happily recognise a Bubble-tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) as a host.

Diet and Nutrition
A varied diet is the best way to ensure their black pigmentation remains intense and doesn't fade into a dull grey.

High-Quality Pellets: Look for brands that include stabilised Vitamin C and natural colour enhancers.

Frozen Fare: Offer mysis shrimp, chopped prawn, and enriched brine shrimp to help them maximise their growth.

Herbivore Blends: Even though they love protein, some dried seaweed (nori) or herbivore flakes will help optimise their digestive health.

Behaviour and Compatibility
Midnight Clownfish are generally peaceful but, like all damsels, they can become a bit feisty if they feel their space is being encroached upon.

Pairing: It is best to keep them as a single specimen or a mated pair. If you're specialising in a clownfish tank, introduce them at the same time to avoid unauthorised bullying.

Tank Mates: They get along well with most reef-safe fish found in local fish stores (LFS), such as Blennies, Gobies, and Royal Grammas.
