How It Works

The Huey Hung Genius Bio Sponge Filter operates using an external aquarium air pump connected via airline tubing.

As air rises through the filter, it creates an air-lift effect that draws aquarium water through the outer sponge and biological filtration media.

The sponge captures suspended waste and debris, while the porous biological media provides a habitat for beneficial nitrifying bacteria. These bacteria help convert harmful ammonia into nitrite and then into less harmful nitrate, supporting a healthy aquarium environment.

The filtered water is gently returned to the aquarium, providing circulation and additional surface agitation for oxygen exchange.

Installation & Maintenance

• Connect the filter to a suitable external air pump using aquarium airline tubing.

• Position the filter securely inside the aquarium.

• Adjust the airflow to provide appropriate water circulation.

• Regularly rinse the sponge in removed aquarium water to clear accumulated debris.

• Avoid washing established biological media in untreated tap water, as chlorine may damage beneficial bacteria.
