Name:
Glowlight Chilli Rosy Barb

Scientific Name:
Pethia conchonius

Description:
A striking, selectively bred variety of the Rosy Barb, known for its intense red-to-orange colouration and attractive iridescent scales. Males generally develop stronger colouring than females. They are hardy, active and relatively easy to care for, making them an excellent choice for community aquariums.

Origin:
The Glowlight Chilli Barb is a selectively bred aquarium variety of the Rosy Barb, which originates from South Asia, particularly India.

pH:
Approximately6.5–7.5

Temperature:
Around18–26°C

Adult Size:
Approximately6–8 cm

Lifespan:
Approximately5–7 years

Food:
Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet of quality tropical flakes or pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworms. Vegetable-based foods can also be included in their diet.

Compatibility:
Generally peaceful and suitable for community aquariums with other active, similarly sized fish. Best kept in aschool of at least 6 to 8 or more. Keeping them in a good-sized group encourages natural behaviour and can reduce fin-nipping. Avoid very slow-moving or delicate long-finned tank mates.

Habitat:
Prefers a well-filtered aquarium with plenty of open swimming space combined with planted areas, rocks and driftwood for cover. A darker substrate and healthy plant growth can provide an attractive contrast to their bright red-orange colouration. They are active swimmers and appreciate plenty of horizontal swimming space.
