Name: Comet Goldfish

Scientific Name:Carassius auratus

Description: A hardy, active freshwater fish with a streamlined body and single tail. Available in orange, gold, white and mixed colours. Comets grow large and need generous swimming space, strong filtration and good water quality.

Origin: East Asia, particularly China, where goldfish were domesticated through selective breeding. Aquarium and pond varieties are captive-bred.

pH: Approximately 6.5–8.0

Temperature: Around 16–22°C; avoid sudden temperature changes.

Adult Size: Approximately 25–30 cm, with some individuals exceeding 35 cm in spacious ponds.

Lifespan: Commonly 10–15 years; can exceed 20 years with excellent care.

Food: Quality goldfish pellets, supplemented with vegetable-based foods and small portions of blanched leafy greens. Occasional frozen foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia provide variety. Avoid overfeeding.

Compatibility: Generally peaceful and best kept with other similarly sized, single-tailed goldfish. May swallow small fish or shrimp. Avoid aggressive species and tropical fish requiring consistently warm water. Fast-swimming common goldfish can outcompete slower fancy varieties for food.

Habitat: A large, mature aquarium or suitably maintained outdoor pond with strong biological filtration, good aeration and open swimming areas. Use smooth décor and safe substrate
