AquaDepot Myriophyllum guyana - Live Plant - Tissue Culture

Myriophyllum guyana Tissue Culture is a striking stem plant with delicate, feathery foliage that creates a soft, flowing appearance in the aquarium. Its finely divided leaves grow densely around upright stems, forming lush, bushy groups that add texture and movement to the aquascape. The foliage ranges from vibrant green to bronze or reddish hues under strong lighting, providing beautiful contrast against broader-leaved plants. When planted in groups, Myriophyllum guyana creates a full, natural-looking background that enhances the depth of the aquarium.

Care Requirements:

Myriophyllum guyana is best suited to intermediate and experienced aquascapers and performs best under moderate to high lighting. The addition of CO₂ and regular fertilisation will encourage faster growth, fuller foliage and richer colouration. Plant individual stems into a nutrient-rich substrate, leaving enough space between stems for good water circulation and light penetration. Regular trimming promotes dense, bushy growth and prevents the lower portions of the stems from becoming shaded. Healthy cuttings can be replanted to expand the display. Stable water conditions and consistent maintenance will keep this elegant stem plant thriving and looking its best.

Potential Issues and Tips:

  • Melting: Newly introduced tissue culture plants can sometimes experience some melting (loss of leaves) as they adapt to the new environment. Providing stable water parameters and good lighting can minimise this.
  • Algae: Imbalances in light, nutrients, or CO2 can lead to algae growth on the leaves. Maintaining proper balance and performing regular water changes can help prevent this.
  • Colour Loss: Insufficient lighting or nutrient deficiencies (especially iron) can cause the vibrant red colour to fade.
  • Trimming: Regular trimming is crucial for maintaining the desired shape and preventing the plant from overshadowing lower-growing species. Trim the tops and replant them to create a denser bush.

Tissue cultures are in a 5cm container - simply rinse gel and plant.

In ideal conditions, shelf life will be approx 4 weeks.
