Riccia fluitans Tissue Culture is a vibrant, bright green liverwort that creates a soft, cushion-like carpet when attached to hardscape. Its delicate, branching fronds form a dense, textured mat that adds a lush, natural look to aquascapes. When grown under good lighting with adequate nutrients and CO₂, it develops into a thick, compact covering that is particularly striking on rocks, driftwood and decorative features. If left unattached, Riccia fluitans naturally floats at the water's surface, where it forms attractive green clusters.
Care Requirements:
Riccia fluitans is suitable for aquariums ranging from beginner to advanced, although achieving a dense carpet is easier with moderate to high lighting and the addition of CO₂. Attach the plant securely to rocks or driftwood using fine mesh, fishing line or aquarium-safe thread until it establishes itself. Regular trimming encourages compact, healthy growth and prevents the lower layers from dying off. Maintain stable water conditions with regular fertilisation for the best colour and vigour. If not attached, the plant will naturally float and can also be used as a floating plant to provide cover for fry and shrimp.
Potential Issues and Tips:
Tissue cultures are in a 5cm container - simply rinse gel and plant.
In ideal conditions, shelf life will be approx 4 weeks.
Basic care instructions:
Each pot is 50mm in diameter and packed full of healthy plants.
