AquaDepot Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' - Live Plant - Tissue Culture

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' Tissue Culture is a popular carpeting plant with small, vibrant green, rounded leaves that spread quickly across the substrate. It forms a dense, lush carpet that creates a natural, rolling landscape effect in the foreground of the aquarium. Compared with many other carpeting plants, Monte Carlo has a slightly larger leaf and a creeping growth habit, making it easier to establish while still providing a neat, attractive finish. Under good lighting and CO₂, it develops into a thick, healthy carpet that enhances the depth and appearance of any aquascape.

Care Requirements:

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' is suitable for beginners through to experienced aquascapers and is one of the easier carpeting plants to grow. Divide the tissue culture into small portions and plant them a few centimetres apart to encourage even spreading. Moderate to high lighting will produce the best results, while the addition of CO₂ promotes faster growth, denser coverage and healthier foliage. A nutrient-rich substrate and regular fertilisation will support vigorous growth. Trim the carpet periodically to maintain a compact appearance and prevent the lower layers from lifting or becoming overcrowded. Stable water conditions will help keep the plant thriving and looking its best.

Potential Issues and Tips:

  • Melting: Newly introduced tissue culture plants can sometimes experience some melting (loss of leaves) as they adapt to the new environment. Providing stable water parameters and good lighting can minimise this.
  • Algae: Imbalances in light, nutrients, or CO2 can lead to algae growth on the leaves. Maintaining proper balance and performing regular water changes can help prevent this.
  • Colour Loss: Insufficient lighting or nutrient deficiencies (especially iron) can cause the vibrant red colour to fade.
  • Trimming: Regular trimming is crucial for maintaining the desired shape and preventing the plant from overshadowing lower-growing species. Trim the tops and replant them to create a denser bush.

Tissue cultures are in a 5cm container - simply rinse gel and plant.

In ideal conditions, shelf life will be approx 4 weeks.
