Scientific Name: Hoplisoma adolfoi (formerly Corydoras adolfoi)

Description: A peaceful and attractive freshwater catfish featuring a creamy white to pale beige body, a distinctive black band running across the eyes, a bold black stripe along the back and a beautiful orange patch behind the head. Adolfo's Corydoras is a popular bottom-dwelling species known for its gentle temperament, active behaviour and social nature. Best kept in groups of six or more, making it an excellent addition to peaceful community aquariums.

Origin: South America, particularly the Rio Negro basin in Brazil, where it inhabits soft, acidic blackwater streams and tributaries.

pH: Approximately 5.0–7.0

Temperature: Around 23–27°C

Adult Size: 5–6 cm

Lifespan: 5–8 years with proper care.

Food: Omnivorous. Quality sinking catfish pellets, bottom-feeder tablets, frozen or live bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia and other small protein-rich foods. Requires a varied diet and should not rely solely on leftover food from other fish.

Compatibility: Extremely peaceful and suitable for community freshwater aquariums. Compatible with small tetras, rasboras, peaceful dwarf cichlids, pencilfish and other non-aggressive species. Best kept in groups of at least 6–8 individuals to encourage natural schooling behaviour and reduce stress. Avoid housing with large, aggressive or predatory fish.

Habitat: Well-established freshwater aquarium with soft, fine sand substrate to protect their delicate barbels, driftwood, leaf litter, plants and shaded hiding places. Prefers soft, slightly acidic water with gentle to moderate flow, good filtration and excellent water quality. Open sandy areas are important for natural foraging behaviour.
