Detailed Guide
Origin
These fish originate from the tropical waters of Southeast Asia, specifically Indonesia (Sumatra and Borneo) and Thailand. They are typically found in slow-moving blackwater streams and peat swamps shaded by heavy forest canopies.

Diet
In the wild, they are micropredators. In a home aquarium, they are unfussy omnivores, but because they have very small mouths, you must provide appropriately sized food:

Dry Food: High-quality crushed flakes or "micro" pellets.

Live/Frozen Food: They go crazy for baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and cyclops.

Colour Enhancement: Feeding foods high in carotenoids will help maintain that "glowing" orange strike.

Tank Environment
Schooling Nature: You should keep them in a group of at least 8–10. In smaller numbers, they become shy and lose their vibrant colour.

Aquascaping: They look best against a dark substrate with plenty of live plants (like Java Fern or Cryptocorynes).

Water Flow: They prefer gentle to moderate water movement; avoid high-pressure powerheads that might toss them around the tank.

A Quick Correction
You’ll often see these labelled interchangeably with Trigonostigma espei (Lambchop Rasbora). While they look nearly identical, the Red Hengeli (Trigonostigma hengeli) usually has a thinner, more translucent body with the orange pigment concentrated mostly around the "black "lambchop" mark. The Espei tends to be a deeper bronze/red across the whole body.
