Description:
A striking African schooling tetra known for its shimmering, iridescent body and flowing fins. Mature males develop particularly vibrant blue, gold and violet tones with elongated fin rays. Congo Tetras are active, peaceful fish and look best when kept in a group.

Origin:
Central Africa — lower and middle Congo River basin, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Republic of the Congo.

Adult Size:
Approximately 6–8 cm, with males generally growing larger than females.

Lifespan:
Approximately 5–10 years with good aquarium care.

Food:
Omnivorous. Accepts quality flakes, pellets and granules, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, Daphnia and bloodworms. Some vegetable-based foods can also be included.

Compatibility:
Peaceful and social. Best kept in groups of at least 6, preferably more. Suitable with similarly sized peaceful community fish, including other tetras, rasboras, Corydoras and peaceful cichlids. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.

Habitat:
Prefers a spacious, well-established aquarium with plenty of open mid-water swimming space. Plants, driftwood, darker substrate and subdued lighting help provide cover and bring out their iridescent colours. Clean, stable water with good filtration is recommended.
