Scientific Name:Tanichthys albonubes (Golden Variety)

Description: A beautiful and peaceful freshwater fish featuring a shimmering golden-yellow body, subtle iridescent markings and attractive red-orange fins. The Gold White Cloud is a selectively bred colour variety of the popular White Cloud Mountain Minnow. Known for its hardy nature, active swimming behaviour and peaceful temperament, it is an excellent choice for community aquariums, particularly cooler-water setups.

Origin: China – the wild species originates from streams around the White Cloud Mountains in southern China and nearby regions of northern Vietnam. The golden variety is commercially bred.

pH: Approximately 6.0–8.0

Temperature: Around 18–24°C

Adult Size: Approximately 3–4 cm

Lifespan: Approximately 3–5 years with proper care.

Food: Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality tropical flakes, micro pellets and small live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms and mosquito larvae. A varied diet helps maintain healthy growth and vibrant golden colouration.

Compatibility: Extremely peaceful and ideal for community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive fish that prefer similar cooler-water conditions. Suitable tank mates include other White Cloud Mountain Minnows, Zebra Danios and peaceful small bottom-dwelling species. Best kept in schools of at least 6–10 individuals, preferably more, to encourage natural schooling behaviour and reduce stress. Avoid large or aggressive fish that may prey on them.

Habitat: Prefers a well-planted aquarium with open swimming areas, gentle to moderate water movement and good oxygenation. Driftwood, smooth rocks and aquatic plants help create a natural environment. Gold White Clouds thrive in clean, well-maintained aquariums with stable water conditions and regular water changes. They are particularly well suited to unheated indoor aquariums in suitable climates, provided temperatures remain within their preferred range.
