Neptune Systems Leak Detection Probe - SS for solid surfaces (LD-2)

1 item left

Plug this probe into your FMM and then place it on any surface where you want to detect stray water. Upon contact with water this probe will communicate to your Apex and alerts or other actions can then take place.  Time is so critical when it comes to water on the floor so it is very common to place two of these inside the stand and two outside the stand to have the ultimate protection against a leaky aquarium. The sensor has a wire length of 5 meters. Note: The LD-2 will only work with the FMM and cannot be used with the ALD module.

The Neptune Systems Leak Detection Probe - SS (LD-2) is a standard, solid-surface leak detection sensor designed to integrate with your Apex aquarium controller system. Unlike its "low profile" counterpart (LD-1) which is designed for under carpet use, the LD-2 is intended for placement on hard, flat surfaces where water might pool.

Key Features and Functions:

Solid Surface Detection:

The LD-2 features two conductive strips on its underside. When these strips come into contact with a conductive liquid like water, they complete an electrical circuit. This change in conductivity is detected by the FMM module.
It's explicitly designed for use on solid, non-porous surfaces such as:
Tile floors
Hardwood floors (though immediate detection is key here to prevent damage)
Concrete
Inside aquarium stands (on the base or shelves)
Beneath sumps or equipment racks

Weighted Design:

The LD-2 typically has a weighted design that helps it stay flat and in place on the surface where it's positioned, ensuring consistent contact and reliable detection.
Connection to FMM Module:

Like all Neptune Systems leak detection probes, the LD-2 must be connected to one of the four sensor ports on a Neptune Systems FMM (Fluid Monitoring Module). The FMM acts as the intermediary, sending the "wet" or "dry" signal to your Apex controller.
It is not compatible with older modules like the ALD.
Integration with Apex Fusion:

Once connected to the FMM and recognized by your Apex, the status of the LD-2 (wet/dry, or OPEN/CLOSED in Apex programming terms) is displayed in real-time on your Apex Fusion dashboard.
The Apex automatically logs the time and date of any leak detection events, providing a history for review.
Critical Automation and Alerts:

The primary benefit of the LD-2 (and any leak sensor) is its ability to trigger immediate protective actions and notifications:

Instant Notifications: Receive email, SMS, or push notifications to your mobile device the moment a leak is detected, even if you're not home.

Audible Alarms:The FMM module has a built-in audible alarm that will sound upon leak detection, providing immediate local awareness.

Automated Equipment Shut-off: This is a crucial safety feature. You can program your Apex to automatically turn off specific equipment to mitigate damage:
Return Pumps: To stop water from continuously draining from your display tank or sump onto the floor.

Dosing Pumps/ATO Systems: To prevent adding more water or chemicals to an already leaking system.

Skimmers: If a skimmer cup overflows, it can shut off the skimmer pump.
Solenoid Valves: For RODI systems, it can shut off the water supply to prevent continuous RO water production.

Customizable Responses: You can tailor the Apex programming to specific scenarios. For instance, a leak inside the stand might trigger different responses than a leak outside the stand.

Common Applications of the LD-2:

Inside Aquarium Stands: Place it directly on the base or shelves inside your tank stand, particularly near plumbing connections, sumps, skimmers, reactors, or any equipment that holds water.

Under Sump/Equipment: Position it directly under your sump, refugium, or large external equipment (like chillers, large reactors) to catch leaks directly from those units.

Around the Base of the Stand: Place it on the floor immediately outside the perimeter of your aquarium stand to catch any water that escapes the stand itself.
Saltwater Mixing Station: Essential for detecting spills or leaks at your saltwater mixing station or top-off water storage containers.

RODI System Area: Place it under or around your RODI unit, booster pump, or storage barrels, as these are common points for drips or failures.
Equipment Rooms/Fish Rooms: In dedicated fish rooms, multiple LD-2 probes can provide comprehensive coverage on hard flooring.

Installation and Setup:

Placement: Identify potential leak points and place the LD-2 probe directly on the hard, flat surface where water would naturally flow or pool if a leak occurred. Ensure the conductive strips are in direct contact with the surface.

Connection: Plug the LD-2 probe's jack into any available sensor port on your Neptune Systems FMM module.

Configuration in Apex Fusion:
Access your Apex Fusion dashboard. Your Apex controller should auto-detect the connected leak sensor.
Navigate to the FMM's configuration page and the specific leak probe. You can give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Sump Leak," "RODI Floor Leak").
Utilize the "Tasks" wizard within Apex Fusion (often found under "Leak Detection Kit" or "Add a Leak Sensor") to easily set up email/SMS alerts and define automated actions. For example, if the sensor's state is "CLOSED" (meaning water is detected), then shut off your return pump.
The Neptune Systems LD-2 provides vital, immediate leak detection for solid surfaces, offering invaluable protection against water damage to your home and equipment. It's a fundamental part of a robust Apex-controlled aquarium safety system.
