NPLD-1

Neptune Systems Leak Detection Probe - LP for use under carpet (LD-1)

1 item left

Plug this probe into your FMM and then place it underneath your carpet near your aquarium. Upon contact with water this probe will communicate to your Apex and alerts or other actions can then take place. Don’t have carpet, see the (LD-2). The sensor has a wire length of 5 meters. Note: The LD-1 will only work with the FMM and cannot be used with the ALD module.

The Neptune Systems Leak Detection Probe - LP (LD-1) is a specialized accessory for your Apex aquarium controller, designed specifically for detecting water leaks in challenging locations, particularly underneath carpets or in very tight, low-clearance spaces.

It's one of two main types of leak detection probes offered by Neptune Systems, the other being the LD-2 (Solid Surface). The key differentiator of the LD-1 is its "Low Profile" (LP) design.

Key Features and Functions:

Low-Profile Design:

This is the defining characteristic of the LD-1. It's much flatter and thinner than the LD-2, allowing it to be easily slipped under carpets, rugs, furniture, tank stands, or into very narrow gaps where a standard probe wouldn't fit.
It's designed to be inconspicuous and unobtrusive while still providing vital leak detection.
Water Detection:

The probe typically uses two conductive strips on its underside. When a conductive liquid like water bridges these strips, it completes a circuit, and the sensor sends a signal to the Apex system.
It's important to note that these are generally conductivity-based sensors. While some newer Neptune sensors (like the LD-3) use optical technology for multi-surface capability, the LD-1 and LD-2 are traditional contact-based probes.
Connection to FMM Module:

The LD-1 probe must be connected to one of the four dedicated sensor ports on a Neptune Systems FMM (Fluid Monitoring Module). The FMM acts as the interface between the leak probe and your Apex controller.
It cannot be used directly with the main Apex unit or legacy modules like the ALD.
Integration with Apex Fusion:

Once connected to the FMM and recognized by your Apex controller, the status of the LD-1 (wet/dry) is displayed in real-time on your Apex Fusion dashboard.
The Apex logs when the probe changes state, llowing you to review historical leak events.
Automation and Alerts (Crucial for Leak Detection):

This is where the LD-1 truly shines as a protective device. You can program your Apex to take immediate action when the probe detects water:
Notifications: Send instant email, SMS, or push notifications to your phone, alerting you to the leak even when you're away from home.
Audible Alarm:Trigger the audible alarm built into the FMM module (and potentially other Apex modules or external alarms) for immediate local notification.
Automatic Shut-off:This is perhaps the most powerful automation. If a leak is detected, you can program your Apex to immediately shut off critical equipment, such as:
Return pumps (to prevent further water loss from the sump).
Skimmers, dosing pumps, or auto top-off (ATO) systems (to prevent overflows or continued adding of water).
Solenoid valves on RODI units (to stop water supply if an RODI leak is detected).
Feed Mode/Service Mode Activation: You could even trigger a "leak mode" that sets all your pumps to minimal flow or off, dims lights, and alerts you.

Common Applications of the LD-1:

Under Carpet/Rugs: Its primary design purpose. Place it strategically under any carpeting near your aquarium, sump, RODI unit, or saltwater mixing station.

Beneath Tank Stands/Cabinets: Slip it under the base of your aquarium stand, especially near the sump, plumbing, or any vulnerable areas where water might accumulate.
Under Sump/Refugium: If your sump sits directly on the floor or a platform, the LD-1 can be placed underneath to catch leaks from the sump itself.

Behind Appliances: Useful for placement behind washing machines, dishwashers, or water heaters in other parts of your home if integrated into a whole-house leak detection system.
RODI Units/Mixing Stations: Place under or near the components of your RODI system or saltwater mixing station, which are common sources of small leaks.

Installation and Setup:

Placement: Identify critical areas prone to leaks (under the tank, near plumbing, at the RO/DI unit, etc.). Find the lowest point where water would naturally pool if a leak occurred.
Connection: Plug the LD-1 probe's jack into any available sensor port on your Neptune Systems FMM module.

Configuration in Apex Fusion:
Access your Apex Fusion dashboard. The Apex should auto-detect the connected leak sensor.
Navigate to the FMM's configuration and the specific leak probe. You can name it (e.g., "Main Tank Leak," "RODI Leak").
Use the "Tasks" wizard in Apex Fusion (often under "Leak Detection Kit" or "Add a Leak Sensor") to easily set up alerts (email, SMS) and automated actions (e.g., "If Leak_Sensor_1 is CLOSED then OFF ReturnPump"). "CLOSED" typically means the circuit is closed due to water contact.
The Neptune Systems LD-1 is an indispensable line of defense against one of the most feared disasters for any aquarist: water leaks. Its low-profile design makes it especially valuable for discreet and effective placement in sensitive areas, providing crucial peace of mind and protection for your home and aquarium.
