General Corydoras Care:

  • Tank Size: A minimum of 20 gallons (75 liters) is generally recommended for most Corydoras species, as they are social and should be kept in groups of at least 6.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: Typically between 72-82°F (22-28°C), but some species may have slightly different preferences.
    • pH: Generally slightly acidic to neutral, in the range of 6.0-7.5.
    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water is usually preferred.
  • Substrate: Smooth sand or fine gravel is crucial to protect their delicate barbels, which they use for foraging. Avoid sharp or rough substrates.
  • Tank Decor: Provide plenty of hiding places with plants, driftwood, and caves.
  • Diet: Corydoras are omnivores and require a varied diet. They are not solely algae eaters. Offer high-quality sinking pellets or wafers, as well as live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
  • Temperament: Corydoras are peaceful and make excellent community fish with other non-aggressive species.
  • Social Behavior: They are shoaling fish and feel most secure in groups of their own kind.
