Scientific Name:Maylandia estherae

Description:
A colourful and active African cichlid from the Mbuna group. Red Zebras can range from orange and red through to yellow or blue depending on sex and population. They are hardy, territorial fish with plenty of personality and are best suited to an African cichlid aquarium.

Origin:
Africa — Lake Malawi, particularly rocky shoreline habitats.

pH:
Approximately 7.5–8.5

Temperature:
Around 24–28°C

Adult Size:
Approximately 10–13 cm

Lifespan:
Approximately 6–10 years with good aquarium care.

Food:
Primarily omnivorous with a strong preference for plant-based foods. Feed quality spirulina or vegetable-based cichlid pellets and flakes, with occasional appropriate protein-rich foods. Avoid excessive high-protein feeding.

Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive and territorial. Best kept with similarly sized Mbuna and other compatible Lake Malawi cichlids. Provide adequate space and avoid peaceful, slow-moving community fish. Keeping appropriate group ratios can help reduce aggression.
