Name: Neon Blue Peacock Cichlid
Scientific Name: Aulonocara sp. (Neon Blue variety)
Description: A stunning African Peacock Cichlid featuring vibrant electric-blue colouring, shimmering metallic scales and striking fins. Males develop an intense blue coloration, making them a standout addition to a Lake Malawi cichlid aquarium.
Origin: Lake Malawi, East Africa; Neon Blue colour varieties are commonly selectively bred in captivity.
pH: Approximately 7.8–8.6
Temperature: Around 24–28°C
Adult Size: 12–15 cm
Lifespan: 5–8 years
Food: High-quality African cichlid pellets, spirulina-based foods, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp and occasional frozen foods. Avoid excessive fatty or protein-rich foods.
Compatibility: Generally peaceful to moderately aggressive compared with other African cichlids. Best kept with similarly sized, relatively peaceful Lake Malawi cichlids. Males can become territorial, particularly during breeding. Avoid keeping with small community fish or aggressive Mbuna species.
Habitat: Spacious, well-filtered aquarium with sandy substrate, rocks, caves and open swimming areas. Provide stable, alkaline water conditions and good oxygenation; larger tanks are preferred for groups.

Stocking Ratio: If keeping females, it is best to have 1 male to 3–4 females to prevent the male from harassing a single female.
Pro Tip for Colour
If your Neon Blue looks a bit "grey" or dull, it is likely due to stress from a dominant tank mate or poor water quality. Dominant males show the best colour; subdominant males will often "mute" their blues to avoid being attacked.
