Unlike generic auto-feeders, its strength lies in its deep integration with the Apex ecosystem, allowing for incredibly precise and customizable feeding routines.

Apex Integration (Required): The AFS is not a standalone feeder. It requires a Neptune Systems Apex controller (Apex Classic, Apex Lite, Apex Jr., A2 Apex, or A3 Apex models) to operate. It connects via an AquaBus cable, drawing power and receiving commands directly from the Apex.

"Stay-Dry" System: A common problem with many auto-feeders is moisture getting into the food chamber, causing food to clump and clog. The AFS addresses this with a unique design: the food container extends out to dispense food and then fully retracts back into a sealed housing with a gasket. This keeps the food dry and fresh, preventing caking and clogging.

Flexible Food Compatibility: It's designed to dispense most flake and pellet foods. Neptune Systems also offers their "Crossover Diet" pellets, which are specifically formulated to work well with the AFS and provide benefits for both fish and corals.

• Turn off return pumps and skimmer.
• Change wavemaker patterns (e.g., to a "tidal surge" mode to keep food circulating).
• Dim tank lights.
• Dispense food.
• Wait a set period for fish to eat.
• Then, automatically turn all equipment back on. This ensures food is eaten by your inhabitants and doesn't get immediately pulled into filtration or over skimmed.

Daisy-Chain Capability: The AFS has two AquaBus ports, allowing you to daisy-chain multiple AFS units together. This is useful for:
