Scientific Name:Iriatherina werneri

Description: A beautiful and delicate freshwater rainbowfish known for its slender body, graceful swimming behaviour and spectacular elongated fins. Male Threadfin Rainbowfish develop impressive, thread-like extensions on their dorsal and anal fins, often displaying subtle red, yellow, black and iridescent colouration. During courtship, males spread their fins in elaborate displays to attract females. These small, peaceful fish are particularly attractive in planted aquariums and make an excellent addition to carefully selected peaceful community setups.

Origin: Northern Australia and southern New Guinea, where they inhabit slow-moving freshwater streams, swamps, wetlands and densely vegetated waterways.

pH: Approximately 5.5–7.5

Temperature: Around 24–28°C

Adult Size: Approximately 4–5 cm, including the elongated fins of mature males.

Lifespan: Approximately 2–4 years under suitable aquarium conditions.

Food: Omnivorous with a preference for tiny aquatic invertebrates. Feed a varied diet of finely crushed quality tropical flakes, micro pellets, live or frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, microworms and other appropriately sized foods. Their small mouths require very fine food particles. A varied diet helps maintain healthy growth, natural colouration and breeding condition.

Compatibility: Extremely peaceful and best kept in groups of six or more, ideally with more females than males. Suitable tank mates include small, peaceful rasboras, other gentle nano fish, small Corydoras and peaceful dwarf shrimp.
