Name: Parkinson's Rainbowfish (Yellow) / Yellow Parkinsoni Rainbow - (Pick up in store only)

Scientific Name:Melanotaenia parkinsoni

Description: A striking and active rainbowfish known for its beautiful yellow to golden-orange colouration, particularly in mature males. Parkinson's Rainbowfish has a streamlined, silvery body with vibrant yellow or orange patches along the rear half of the body and fins. Males develop more intense colours as they mature, especially during courtship displays. These peaceful, energetic fish are excellent additions to larger community aquariums and look particularly impressive when kept in groups.

Origin: Papua New Guinea, where they inhabit freshwater rivers, streams and coastal lowland waterways.

pH: Approximately 7.0–8.0

Temperature: Around 24–28°C

Adult Size: Approximately 12–15 cm

Lifespan: Approximately 5–8 years under suitable aquarium conditions.

Food: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet of quality tropical flakes, small pellets, frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms and other suitable aquatic invertebrates. Vegetable-based foods can also be offered. A varied, nutritious diet helps maintain healthy growth and vibrant colouration.

Compatibility: Peaceful and active schooling fish, best kept in groups of six or more, ideally with a mixture of males and females. Suitable tank mates include other similarly sized rainbowfish, larger peaceful tetras, rasboras, Corydoras and peaceful bottom-dwelling species. Avoid aggressive fish, fin-nippers and very small or timid species that may be intimidated by their active swimming behaviour.

Habitat: A spacious aquarium with open swimming areas, plants and driftwood. Provide moderate water movement, good filtration and well-oxygenated water. Stable water conditions and regular water changes are important for their long-term health.
