Goyder River Rainbowfish - In Store Pick Up Only

Scientific Name:Melanotaenia trifasciata (Goyder River locality)

Description: A stunning Australian native rainbowfish known for its vibrant red-orange colouration, iridescent scales and distinctive dark horizontal stripe running along the body. Mature males develop particularly intense colours and beautifully extended fins, especially during courtship displays. Active, peaceful and hardy, the Goyder Rainbowfish is an excellent choice for larger community aquariums and Australian native fish displays.

Origin: Australia – Goyder River, Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. A geographical variety of the Banded Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia trifasciata).

pH: Approximately 6.5–8.0

Temperature: Around 24–28°C

Adult Size: Approximately 10–12 cm

Lifespan: Approximately 5–8 years with proper care.

Food: Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality tropical flakes, small pellets, frozen and live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworms. A varied diet rich in protein and natural carotenoids helps maintain vibrant colouration and overall health.

Compatibility: Peaceful and active. Suitable for community aquariums with other similarly sized rainbowfish, peaceful barbs, larger tetras, Corydoras and other non-aggressive species. Best maintained in groups of six or more, ideally with multiple females per male to encourage natural behaviour and reduce competition.

Habitat: Prefers a spacious, well-filtered aquarium with clean, well-oxygenated water and moderate water movement. Provide plenty of open swimming space alongside planted areas, driftwood and natural decorations. A darker substrate and suitable aquarium lighting can help showcase the males' vibrant colours. Regular water changes and stable water conditions are important for maintaining good health.
